BANKS
The district has the highest
concentration of commercial banks in the State. For every 6000 people,
there is a bank. There are 200 branches of commercial banks in the
district with deposits exceeding Rs. 2000 crores. The per capita
deposit is Rs.16700/- which is the highest in the State and the
C.D. ratio of 14%, the lowest.
Major banks in the district
are: State Bank of Travancore (50 branches), Federal Bank(37 branches),
Indian Overseas Bank (21 branches) and Catholic Syrian Bank (18
branches). The State Bank of India has 8 branches.
The Pathanamthitta District
Co-operative Bank started functioning on 1st July 1985, taking over
branches of the Kollam and Alappuzha District Co-operative Banks.
Now it has 31 branches.

MEDIA
No major daily newspaper is
being published from this district. But important dailies like Malayala
Manorama, Mathrubhoomi, Kerala Kaumudi, Mangalam, Deepika, Desabhimani,
Madhyamam, Chandrika, Janmabhomi and Indian Express have their bureaus
and correspondents at the headquarters. These papers have wide circulation
in this district.
Regarding the audio-visual media,
there are sixty cinema theatres in the district.
A Doordarsan Relay Centre is
functioning since 1989 at Mannaramala, 4 kms. away from Pathanamthitta
town. A 100 watts low power transmitter is installed in this centre.
As the antenna is 150 feet high, the programmes from this centre
is available to people living with in a radius of 12 kms.
